6 Reasons to book Spring Family Photos
Most times when you think about booking new family photos it's probably around fall and it's probably for your holiday cards, right? This is what the majority of families do to get their yearly family photos done. But why do we restrict our memories to only once a year? There are so many moments throughout the entire year that are so precious in our family. Those moments deserve to be celebrated just as much. During spring, our kids are finishing up another year of school, they might be graduating, it might be their last spring before starting school, etc. Spring symbolizes growth, change, and newness in our lives. There are endless reasons to get your spring family photos done and document this time in your life as well.
What is the best season for family photos?
Fall and Spring are the most common months for family photos. While most of us have probably taken them in the fall, spring family photos can be just as fun and sometimes even better!
1- Photographers have more availability
Because most people wait to get their photos done for fall, spring availability is often more open. It will likely be a lot easier to find a photographer and time that works for you and your needs! This helps to make the process all the more enjoyable for you and your photographer because you're able to have ease when booking and will have all the time you need to prepare for your session.
2- Photo spots are less crowded
Being that this season is less busy for photoshoots, there are usually fewer people out! Especially during the busy season, it can be frustrating to have to move around lots of people and crowds of other photographers during your session. When you book spring family photos, you could get the whole area to yourself. It can make it a lot easier to feel comfortable being in front of the camera and be able to let go. I love when my clients are able to be themselves, play with the kids, and have no stress about posing or worrying about what others think during the session. I want you to be yourself and enjoy the time with your family. Meanwhile, I will capture those little moments of laughter and love.
3- Spring Family Photos make for beautiful backdrops
The sun is out, the flowers are blooming- spring is just so beautiful. It's pretty lucky that almost anywhere you go for your photos, you will have the most amazing backdrop for you and your family. With the unbeatable scenery, your photos are going to turn out perfectly. I have a few favorite spots for spring family photo sessions in El Dorado Hills and other areas in Northern California. These spots just get so breathtaking during that time of year and my clients always fall in love with it.
4- What to wear for spring family photos
The warmer weather also allows you and your family to dress in lighter and brighter clothing. You can go for flowy dresses or layer some sweaters that complement each other. I always recommend sticking to a color palette for the family and not using too many patterns to avoid distracting from your beautiful faces.
I also offer a small client closet for moms who want some inspiration as well as a professional styling platform that will help you in choosing outfits for everyone in your family and deliver them right to your door. No more having to stress the night before about who is wearing what- I support you all along the way!
5- What is the best month for Spring Family Photos?
The best time for booking your spring family photo session is anywhere from March-May. We will have the best chance of having really good weather during these months. However, even the photo sessions that end up being cold or darker are still so much fun. We get to play around with the different lighting options and I get to be creative when shooting. If our session date ends up being too cold for outside, we can always take photos inside or readjust the date if needed!
While booking spring photos is best for march-may, it's best to reach out as soon as possible. My availability is usually full for a few months in advance. So, make sure to reach out as soon as you know you want to do photos. This way, I can save your spot! Booking early also allows me to be able to support you in the planning process of our session. My number 1 priority is to make the process easy and enjoyable for you. You can be excited for your family session knowing that the clothes, location, process, etc, are all taken care of.

6- Create long-lasting memories with your family during your photo session
One thing I absolutely love about spring photo sessions is being able to be outdoors. It's the most beautiful thing to be able to take a break from your busy day-to-day life and get outside with your littles. You get to be playful and have fun with them while also having these memories captured forever. As much as we hate to think about it, these moments don't last forever. Actually, they are over way too quickly. It's only when we look back and notice they have already passed that we wish it would last just a little bit longer. That’s why I am so honored to help create these photos that will allow those memories to live on forever in your family.
Memories That Last Beyond Christmas Card Photos
It is so important to get that yearly family photo update for the Holiday cards. However, there’s so much that happens in your family throughout the year. All of the moments deserve to be documented and remembered forever too. Taking spring family photos is like taking a snapshot right out of your daily life. You're able to hold onto that moment as the kids grow and change throughout the years. It's something we never want to forget.
