Styling Tips Based on a Few of My Favorite Locations
Sandy Lake Shoreline
One of my favorite places to shoot is along the sandy and rocky shorelines around Folsom Lake. The dramatic scenery, with its textured rocks and expansive views, creates a breathtaking backdrop for family photos. When styling for this location, consider soft, neutral tones like creams, light grays, and sandy beiges. These colors complement the natural surroundings without competing with the stunning landscape. Flowy fabrics work wonderfully here, adding a touch of elegance and movement to your photos. Think long dresses for women and linen or cotton shirts for men—clothing that feels relaxed yet polished. And remember shoes are always going to be photographed so opt for clean shoes that match your outfits or bring shoes to walk around in but opt to go barefoot during your session.

The soft, golden hues of the field are best complemented by earthy tones like warm browns, soft yellows, and muted oranges. Consider outfits that have a rustic, bohemian feel—think about textures like lace, cotton, and denim.
